Inca Jungle Trek 6D/5N


Day 1: City Tour

The first day of our tour begins at 1:00pm when we will pick you up from your hostel to start your tour of the magical city of Cusco. We begin at the Cathedral learning about the history and art, before discovering the Temple of Sol Qoricancha. We also visit other places of importance such as Sacsayhuaman Qengo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay (temple of water) which was used as a place of admiration and worship of water.

Day 2: Sacred Valley

The second day of our Inca Jungle Trek starts at 8.30am when we will collect you from your hostel. Afterwards we will travel together to the archaeological centre of Pisac situated 45 minutes away from Cusco. Pisac is an example of the advanced technology and thinking of the Incans in terms of architecture, platforms and exploitation of water for agriculture. The other reason for visiting Pisac is its artisanal market where we can find unique and authentic items. At mid-day we will head to the town of Urubamba where we will have a buffet lunch where we can sample delicious Peruvian food. Urubamba was one of the principal towns of agriculture in the Incan empire. After lunch we will head to the fortress town of Ollantaytambo.

Day 3: Ollantaytambo – Biking – Santa Maria Pispitayoc (Rafting – Optional)

Today we will start in Ollantaytambo. Here we will have time for breakfast before continuing to Cordillera del Vilcanta reaching our highest point of 4316 mts, it is here we will begin our decent by bicycle lasting approximately 3 hrs. On the way we will pass unique ecosystems which characterise the Andes and the Jungle. Our activity will finish in the town of Huamanmarka where we will enjoy a buffet lunch. After which our journey will continue to Santa Maria where you will have the opportunity to participate in an additional activity by rafting along the river Urubamba (located at 1200 mts). Finally we arrive to Cocalpampa where we have a short climb of half an hour until reaching the community of Pispitayoc (1530 mts). Here we will stay with a local family for the night.

Day 4: Pispitayoc – Thermal Baths – Santa Teresa – Trekking

On the fourth day of our tour we will start at 7.00am with a good breakfast prepared by our hosts. Afterwards we have a short uphill walk of half an hour, reaching a height of 1720 mts. Here we can enjoy wildlife and florna native to the area such as coffee plants and fruit plants such as mangos, oranges, bananas, papaya etc. During our walk we pass along a stretch of the original impressive Inca trail and from the top we have fantastic views of the whole valley of the river Urubamba. We continue our walk until we reach the small village of Quellomayo where we can enjoy lunch and have a restorative siesta. Afterwards we continue walking until reaching the relaxing soothing warm waters of Cocalmayo where we can enjoy a swim in the thermal pools. Finally we continue walking a further 30 minutes more to the town of Santa Teresa where we will spend our fourth night.

Day 5: Santa Teresa – Hydroelectric plant – Aguas Calientes (Tiroleza optional)

On the fifth day of our Inca Jungle Machu Picchu tour we begin at 6.30 am with a traditional breakfast in Santa Teresa. Afterwards we have the opportunity to go zip-lining (this activity is extra and optional). This day will have the characteristic weather of a tropical climate. Once we have finished our optional activity we will travel from Santa Teresa until reaching the Hydroelectric power station. Very near here there is a sacred Incan ceremonial site, or Intihuatana, waiting for us. Finally we will finish our journey by foot with a walk around the town on Aguas Calientes. Here we will head to our accommodation to rest and spend the night on comfortable beds. After arriving we will enjoy a dinner with our guide who will discuss the plans for the following day.

Day 6: Machu Picchu

On our final day of the Tour Inca Jungle Machu Picchu we will start very early at 4am. We start early in order to see the sunset from the top of Machu Picchu. This stretch of our journey will take us about an hour and 45 minutes to reach the top. After we enjoy this magical view we will have a guided tour around the site, lasting approximately 2 hours, to enlighten us on the rich history of the ancient ruins around us. After our guided tour you will have free time to explore the site where you have the option to climb either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (both require advanced reservation and include an additional cost). The round trip to Huayna Picchu by foot will take around an hour and a half and gives magnificent views of the valley from the top. The site closes at 5.30pm and it is at this time we will return to Aguas Calientes, take the train to Ollantaytambo and then take the bus back to Cusco. There is also the possibility to spend an extra night in Aquas Calientes to give extra time in Machu Picchu.
